🌿🍋 At the Source 🎨🇮🇹

There are few places on earth where art and reality seem to melt into each other and the Lake Como region is one of those. A perfect detox spot due to the idyllic scenery, Bellagio also has what Italy does best, a cute small village with amazing food and amazing small stores filled with treasures! When in Bellagio, you’ll realize why Italy has been the source of inspiration for so many artists over the years and you’ll in turn give them a bit less credit 😜 no offense D&G (still think you’re amazing) but you’ll also awaken the stylist in you as all those beautiful finds you dig up in stores here and there will demand to be styled on your Italian alter ego!

Royal Ascot Hats

Dolce & Gabbana dispatched their milliner to New Bond Street for an onsite live creation of unique hats using D&G laces, guipures & crystals… The boxes – sporting the latest D&G prints – were a show by themselves and promised to guarantee your hat a life of stylish travel!

Immeuble Bizarre!

Much to my surprise my 3 year old was serving as somewhat of an art tourist guide during our latest trip to Barcelona! After our first encounter with a modernist building, she reacted “immeuble bizarre!” (eng. weird building) and since that caught our attention, she then went on to say that everytime she spotted a building she felt was out of the norm and most often that would turn out to be a Gaudí building or another very original modernist building! So when we went this morning to the Sagrada Família I was perhaps more excited to see her reaction to that fantasy of a church than seeing this architectural marvel myself… and I wasn’t disappointed! After we stepped out of the cab, opened the stroller and made sure we grabbed the 200 moving pieces we dangle around with us (e.g. gloves and scarfs we don’t need but just in case…), I finally told her to look up and in an instant her eyes grew wide open and she said “maman maman immeuble TRÈS BIZARRE! with such a sense of accomplishment that she had found that “building” that she might have convinced herself that she made it appear by her dedication to this spot-the-weird-building game! While she was mesmerized by the grandeur of the church, what ultimately captured her imagination was a small ladybug that is sculpted on one of its main door… that ladybug and the curiousness of its presence became the subject of her long monologues and questions afterwards! Today was a very sacred family day at the Sagrada Família…

Silueta de Barcelona

Stylish and unapologetic, Catalonia’s capital captured my imagination from the first day. I really think we’re gonna be very good friends… She dresses her buildings in couture-like detailed designs, juxtaposes them with ultra modern buildings, drizzles the art of a visionary artist here and there and throws in a beach for good measure!

Gloves Wrap-Up

20150103-230641-83201014.jpg
As a mother of two, practicality imposes itself in my OOTDs and increasingly this has meant a challenge to accessorizing as jewelry peaces are perceived as edible toys by my baby… So in order to avoid getting chocked or having my ears ripped off and to add a little oomph to an otherwise (God forbid!) mundane look, I’ve started a small obsession this Winter season with more practical and functional accessories ornated with old-era designs. In this outfit I opted for gloves: functional (shield vs. the cold) and kids friendly (kids can’t get hurt by or swallow a glove) and they add a lot of flair and romanticism to a look… Of course it’s key to find the right gloves for your look, as there is a risk of them looking too costumey or ill-matched if they don’t blend into the theme of the overall outfit. Remember that fit is key so make sure your gloves don’t make your fingers look disproportionately large! Finally, you can’t wear gloves for every Winter OOTD, so remember that the same can be achieved with a carefully selected old-era designed scarf or hat.

Haute Couture #tbt

From the movie “Marie Antoinette” – seen on Wedding Inspirasi

Since I’m avoiding ice-skating (more like ice-slipping!) on the black ice covering Manhattan today and because it’s Thursday! I thought it would be a good occasion for some tbt…

Here’s one of my very modest attempts at Haute Couture for a gown I wore as a bridesmaid for my little sister’s wedding in summer 2012. With the assistance of an up and coming lebanese designer (Ghassan Antonios), I was able to create a gown inspired by Marie Antoinette gowns’ silhouette. What made me go back in time and take a look at my sister’s wedding photos is the fact that this very similar style has been making a come back on Elie Saab’s runway both for his SS 2013 and the very recent SS 2014. Nice try, though I admit I still have a very long way before comparing my creations to ES’s! Always in awe of ES!
